The Challenge

This was the 6 day challenge I received from a Maternal Health Ai Start Up  for their interview screening:

"Design a social media mobile app named "Zayna" for pregnant moms.

Constraint: Your design should not exceed 10 Figma screens.

Our goal is to keep things as open-ended as possible to allow you to showcase your design and problem-solving skills. Hence, you have total freedom to own and define the scope of what Zayna does."

Problem Statement

How might we create a user-centric social media experience for pregnant moms that:

  1. Fosters a supportive community, provides valuable information

  2. Encourages active engagement throughout their pregnancy journey

  3. Ensures a safe and secure environment?

Competitive Audit

I conducted a competitive audit by finding 3 potential competitors and comparing their strengths and weakness. Here are my summarized findings:

Strengths:

  • Content Variety: Offers a wide range of pregnancy-related articles, videos, and expert advice.

  • Community: Has a large and active community forum where users can connect and share experiences.

  • Tracking Tools: Provides pregnancy tracking features and a due date calculator.

  • Mobile App: Offers a user-friendly mobile app for on-the-go access.

Weaknesses

  • Privacy Concerns: Some users have expressed concerns about data privacy and information security.

  • User Experience: The app's interface can be overwhelming for new users.

Strengths:

  • Comprehensive Information: Provides detailed information on every stage of pregnancy and parenting.

  • Community Support: Features a highly engaged community with active discussion forums.

  • Personalization: Offers personalized content based on the user's due date.

  • Integration: Integrates with a pregnancy tracker and a baby registry.

Weaknesses

  • Intrusive Ads: Users often complain about the frequency of ads within the app.

  • Learning Curve: The wealth of information can be overwhelming for first-time users.

Strengths:

  • Large User Base: One of the most popular pregnancy and parenting websites globally.

  • Expert-Backed Content: Provides content developed in partnership with medical professionals.

  • Community Engagement: Offers active forums and groups for users to connect.

  • Diverse Content: Covers various aspects of pregnancy, parenting, and child development.

Weaknesses

  • Ad-Supported: Like many free platforms, it relies heavily on advertising.

  • Data Privacy Concerns:Users have expressed concerns about data security.

  • Interface Clutter: Some users find the website's interface cluttered with information and ads.

Key Takeaways:

Content Quality:

Competitors focus on providing comprehensive pregnancy and parenting information.

Community Engagement:

Engaged communities are a common theme, emphasizing the importance of social support.

Privacy Concerns:

Personalization:

Offering personalized content based on the user's stage of pregnancy can enhance engagement.

Persona + UX Flow

Given the time constraint, I decided to focus on one user persona and their user experience
